With our trip to the Lost Coast just around the corner Lori and I wanted to get to know our equipment a little better and find out what we truly need to carry on our backs. Gear shakedowns like these on quick getaways have really aided in my quest to lighten my pack load. By narrowing down items I do and don’t use on shorter trips I can save myself the extra weight on longer trips. The Big Santa Anita Canyon Loop on Mount Wilson offers dog friendly free camping immersed in thick mountain woods with babbling creeks and numerous waterfalls. It is a gorgeous place to put in a few miles, get a little dirty, and feel like you are miles away from it all without even leaving LA.
